Bio
Following my formal education in film and photography at the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts), I pursued my first big story, The Bicentennial. A year in the historic park produced a photographic portfolio purchased by the Library of Congress and the Philadelphia Free Library. I continued to hone my storytelling skills at newspapers, magazines and the Westport, Connecticut Art’s Council.
As a freelance photographer I’ve always focused on the story to be portrayed whether for an ad campaign, marketing materials or editorial. My clients have been a mixed bag of subjects. From healthcare, architecture, humanitarian relief, education, or portraiture I have enjoyed finding their spirit and telling their story.
In the 21st century the technology revolution created tools designed for the individual so I've returned to the moving image. In 2002 I formed FlameTree Productions and began offering video services to clients.
Starting in 1990 I began traveling for AmeriCares, a humanitarian relief organization, documenting its work in war zones and disaster areas around the world. If I learned nothing else, I learned I don’t have problems, I have inconveniences.
Throughout it all I have continued a personal body of work about society and culture. Along the way I was lucky enough to receive a grant from the foundation of the distinguished photographer Robert Frank. In 2007 I was asked to produce a piece for a video installation, 50,000 Beds, installed at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. My video, Present Futurecast, was exhibited May 2008 at the Gallery at 3rd Ward, Brooklyn NY, the San Francisco short film festival and a video festival at the Center for Photography, Woodstock NY.
