Animation and Art Direction

I was visual effects supervisor and second unit live action director for this spoof of Outcasts "Hey Yah". The shoot required allot of creative problem solving. The small budget did not allow for motion capture, so I opted to create the stage and camera moves in 3D space.

Chris was filmed in multiple takes on green screen for each of the eight band members and composited onto the stage. The curtain backdrop and coffin where constructed in 3d from photographs and the stage and risers are CG elements.

In order to complete the number of takes required in the shortest possible amount of time, I created a 3d mock-up previs of the set. This allowed me to work out all the camera angles in advance and generate a detailed shot list. The whole shoot was done in one day, and no overtime!
